Just click on the Question to get your Answer!
Q- When will I receive my order?
Q- Do you provide  the horse hair?
Q- Can I use my own horse's hair?
Q- Do I get a choice of color of horse hair?
Q-
How long will my braided horse hair item last?
Q- How do I take care of my braided horsehair item?
Q- What if my hair is too short, or there is not enough?

Q- When will I receive my order?
You should receive your order within 3 to 5 weeks.  I make each piece by hand when your order is received, and since I have a day job too and there is only me, I need at least 3 to 4 weeks to make each item and get it to you.  If I should get several orders in at once (think Christmas time) I will complete each order in the order they are received.  Therefore, if it looks like it will be longer than 4 weeks, I will contact you by e-mail.

Q- Do you provide  the horse hair?
Yes! If you would like for me to use my own horse hair, just email me with what color you would prefer.  If I cannot reach you, your order will be completed using a black or chestnut.

Q- Can I use my own horse's hair?
Yes!  I would love to use your own horse's hair to make any of my jewelry! 99% of my orders are from client's horses.

Q- Do I get a choice of color of horse hair?
Yes.  If you are ordering a piece from my stock of horse hair, you can choose if you want black or chestnut/sorrel.  I do not have a large stock of gray or palomino colored hair right now; however, if you really want something in those colors I will do my best to accommodate you.  You can also choose more than one color for any piece of jewelry.

Q- How long will my braided horse hair item last?
Just like people, horses have different hair - some is course, some is fine and some is thicker than others. With proper care your horse hair jewelry will last for many years, not matter what kind of hair the horse has. You will receive car instructions along with your finished piece.

Q- How do I take care of my braided horsehair item?
Anything that would damage your own hair or skin, such as abrasion, heat or chemicals, will damage your jewelry.   To clean, you can use any shampoo that you would use yourself, or shampoo specifically designed for horse hair.  If you choose a piece with sterling silver beading, I would use a cleaning cloth specifically for silver as you would have a bit more control on where it goes versus say using a paste or liquid silver cleaner that you have to rinse off.   (James Avery makes one that is just wonderful!)  The worst thing for any horse hair jewelry is abrasion, so make sure you remove your jewelry if you will be working around any rough surfaces such as course concrete, wood, etc.  If a hair does break and starts to poke out, use a pair of fingernail clippers and very carefully cut back the offending hair so it is level with the rest of the braiding. Obviously the more hairs you have to trim back the weaker the braid will be.

Q- What if my hair is too short, or there is not enough?
I can always come up with something, so the best thing would be to just send me the hair that you have.  Once I see it I can contact you with what I think can be done and we will make a decision from there.

MEASURING :
For a correct  fit, please follow these directions.

BRACELETS:

- Measure your wrist at the largest part with a sewing tape measure.  Lay the tape around your wrist, but not tightly. (Example: my wrist is 6.5 inches on this step)

- Add .5 for ease of your bead choice. (Example 6.5 inch + .5 = 7 inches)

- For a tighter fit add .25 inch or for a looser fit add .5 inch to this measurement depending upon preference. This is your final bracelet length. (Example 7 inch + .25 inch = 7.25 inch - I like a tighter fit)

- Average size for most store bought bracelets is 7 to 7.25 inches for women and 8 inches for men.

- When you place your order, indicate the finished bracelet length NOT the wrist size.

HOW TO COLLECT HORSE HAIR

- Tail hair only. Mane hair can only be used in the Duncan key chain.  Mane hair is too fragile to hold up to being braided, so if you send me mane hair for a braided piece, just know that it will NOT last as long as tail hair.
- Grasp the longest hairs at the bottom of the tail.
- Lift the longest hairs over to the side with one hand and with the other hand pull the shorter hairs away. Separate away as many short hairs as possible so you are only cutting the longest hair.
- Cut close to the tailbone.
- Cut 2-4 bunches from different places on the tail so you do not cut too big a chunk from one place.
- The final bundle should be about the diameter of your little finger. For a standard sized bracelet the length needs to be 15-18 inches long. The longer the better for any of the Celtic knot work bracelets.  For a necklace the length needs to be about twice the length of the finished necklace.  If you think you do not have enough hair, email me!  I know we can come up with a great design!
- Please use a rubber band to secure the bundle.  Do not use tape, as it will not hold all the hair securely.
- Please do not add oil, Show Sheen, or any other similar product to the hair. Make sure it is completely dry before shipping if you choose to wash it.
- The hair must be free from tangles or mats. PLEASE do not braid or knot the hair.  Horse hair likes to go it's own way all by itself, so braiding it does not help me during the making of your bracelet!
- Place the hair bundle in a zip-lock bag, paper bag or envelope. If you use plastic, please cut holes to let the hair breathe! This is for your safety and mine, as horse hair can carry fungal spores that are life threatening when inhaled! Llabel the bag with your name and phone number and send along a copy of the order information.
